From a first experiment of putting his patients together in a
small group
whilst working
in Exeter just before World War 2, Dr S. H. Foulkes, working as an army
psychiatrist during the war perfected a method of Group-Analysis. This became a
major foundation of psychotherapy practice in the British NHS.
In addition to working as a consultant at
the Maudsley Hospital, Denmark Hill, London SE5 Foulkes established his own practice in
Great Portland Street. This is essentially the parent practice of today's Group-Analytic
Practice
where we continue to offer,
group-analytic psychotherapy, individual psychotherapy, family and couple therapy and psychodynamically informed psychiatry.
